Community Coordination Initiative
Introduction and NGO membership
Background
On the initiative of AICMEU Mumbai, MAAS Aligarh and a few like minded Muslim community organizations, a consultation on Networking of Indian Muslim NGOs was organized in Mumbai 2003. The lack of professionalism, accountability, transparency and trust were identified as some of the major areas where Muslim community organizations need special attention. It was attended by 65 Muslim NGO representatives. Major decisions taken at the consultation were establishment of a coalition of Muslim NGOs, coordination of their activities and improvement of their services and standing. As a result, Community Coordination Initiative was established and registered in 2006.
CCI has embarked upon Muslim NGO empowerment through acquisition of professional knowledge, efficient organizational development, and effective networking. CCI is striving for community development partnership and civil society building in cooperation with Muslim, mainstream and national NGOs, social agencies, government departments, professionals and funding agencies and civil society actors. CCI is aiming at building Common bonds, affinities, partnerships and networking in bringing community organization and to a common forum to develop new directions, better visions, cost effective and efficient management systems.
It is expected that Interaction, networking and partnership with the civil society actors will improve capacities of Muslim community organizations in enhancing basic principles of community service, volunteerism and people empowerment. CCI is also engaged in attracting greater national and international participation in the Muslim community socio-economic empowerment. Our goal is making Muslim NGOs a full fledge partner in national progress and providers of better living conditions for the underprivileged people.
